  • 1 (also nereid) Greek Mythology any of the sea nymphs, daughters of Nereus. They include Thetis, mother of Achilles.
  • 2 Astronomy a satellite of Neptune, the farthest from the planet, discovered in 1949. It has an irregular shape, a diameter of 211 miles (340 km), and an eccentric orbit.
