Definition of McCullers, Carson
(1917–67), US writer; born Lula Carson Smith. Her work deals sensitively with loneliness and the plight of the eccentric. Notable works: The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter (1940), The Member of the Wedding (1946), and The Ballad of the Sad Cafe (1951).
