Definition of Lipchitz, Jacques
(1891–1973), French sculptor, born in Lithuania; born Chaim Jacob Lipchitz. After producing cubist works such as Sailor with a Guitar (1914), he explored the interpenetration of solids and voids in his series of “transparent” sculptures of the 1920s.
