  • (1912–2006), US economist. As a policy adviser to President Ronald Reagan from 1981 to 1989, he advocated free market forces to produce balanced economic growth. Notable works: Capitalism and Freedom (1962) and Free to Choose (1980, coauthored with his wife). Nobel Prize for Economics (1976).
