  • (1924–2004), US actor. An exponent of method acting, he first attracted critical acclaim in the stage production of A Streetcar Named Desire (1947) and starred in the movie version four years later. Other notable movies: On the Waterfront (1954), The Godfather (1972), and Apocalypse Now (1979).
