Definition of Baffin, William
  • (circa 1584–1622), English navigator and explorer, the pilot of several expeditions in search of the Northwest Passage 1612–16. He discovered the largest island of the Canadian Arctic in 1616; this and the strait between it and Greenland are named after him.
