- (1907–95), US businessman and politician; born in Mexico; full name George Wilcken Romney. He was president of American Motors 1954–62, governor of Michigan 1963–69, and US secretary of Housing and Urban Development 1969–72. His son (Willard) Mitt Romney (1947-), the Republican governor of Massachusetts 2003–07, unsuccessfully vied for his party’s candidacy in the 2008 presidential race.
