- (1905–82), Russian-born American writer and philosopher; born Alissa Rozenbaum. She developed a philosophy of ‘objectivism’, arguing for ‘rational self-interest’, individualism, and laissez-faire capitalism, which she presented in both non-fiction works and novels. Notable novels: The Fountainhead (1943) and Atlas Shrugged (1957).
