  • (b.1949), Israeli Likud statesman, Prime Minister 1996-9 and since 2009. Leader of the right-wing Likud coalition 1993-9, he narrowly defeated Shimon Peres in the elections of 1996, but lost to the Labour statesman Ehud Barak in 1999.
