Lobachevsky, Nikolai Ivanovich(Ni¦ko|lai Ivan|ovich Lo¦ba|chev¦sky)
Pronunciation: /ˌlɒbəˈtʃɛfski/
(1792–1856), Russian mathematician. At about the same time as Gauss and János Bolyai (1802–60), he independently discovered non-Euclidean geometry. His work was not widely recognized until the non-Euclidean nature of space-time was revealed by the general theory of relativity.
