Delors, Jacques

- (b.1925), French socialist politician, president of the European Commission 1985–94; full name Jacques Lucien Jean Delors. During his presidency he pressed for closer European union and oversaw the introduction of a single market within the European Community, which came into effect on 1 January 1993.
