- (1934–72), US baseball player; born in Puerto Rico; full name Roberto Clemente Walker. An outfielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates 1955–72, he was a four-time National League batting champion. He was killed in an airplane crash on his way to bring aid to Nicaraguan earthquake victims. Baseball Hall of Fame (1973).
