  • 1st Baron Baden-Powell of Gilwell (1857–1941), English soldier and founder of the Boy Scout movement; full name Robert Stephenson Smyth Baden-Powell. He became a national hero after his successful defence of Mafeking (1899–1900) in the Boer War.
